Here’s to actually talking

Guys will grab a beer and talk about almost anything. Sports. Work. Dating. Whatever happened in the group chat. But when something’s actually weighing on them, opening up can be a lot harder.

So we wondered: What if the thing that already brings guys together could help get a more meaningful conversation started? That question became Spill!, a beer created to make opening up with friends a little easier—and connect those who need more support with someone to talk to.

The challenge

Getting guys to spill.

The challenge was getting young men to go beyond the usual conversations they have and talk about the things that actually matter.

Instead of asking them to change where or how they connect, we wanted to meet them somewhere they were already comfortable: over a beer with a friend.

The Strategy

Give the conversation an opener.

We started with a simple insight: sometimes the hardest part of opening up is just getting started.

So rather than create another campaign telling guys they should talk, we created something that could help them actually do it. By turning a familiar social ritual into an invitation to have a more meaningful conversation, Spill! makes talking about what’s going on feel less like a big mental-health moment and more like grabbing a beer with a bro.

THe Creative

Open up & open up.

Together with Sonder Brewing and Rivertown Wellness, we created Spill! Session Pale Ale—a beer designed to get more than the tab open.

Every can gives guys conversation starters that make it easier to get past the small talk. And when someone needs more than a friend to spill to, the can connects them through a QR code to professional support from Rivertown Wellness.

From the beer itself to coasters, OOH, social and activations, every part of Spill! was built around one simple idea: some conversations need an opener.

The Launch

Get ready to spill.

On October 2, Spill! launches at Sonder Brewing with an event built around doing something bars are already great at: bringing people together.

Friends can grab a Spill!, use the prompts on the can to get a conversation going and learn more about the resources available through Rivertown Wellness. Because sometimes helping a friend open up can start with something as simple as, “Wanna grab a beer?”

Curlabs

Big ideas, assemble

Spill! is the first idea born from CurLab, Curiosity’s idea accelerator, where our people pitch the solution to a problem they care about for a shot at $25K investment. All they have to do is win over four esteemed judges—including former NFL player Dhani Jones—with their five-minute pitch.

Become fascinating or be ignored.
